Afternoons with Derek (sponsored by Hux AC)

It’s hard to believe, but true… I’ve been on the radio for 20 years! My first gig was at an AM Southern Gospel station in Kentucky. I was drawn into radio because it blended my love for music, acting, and the Gospel perfectly. When I’m not on the radio you can find me serving at my church on the worship and media teams.

Something most people don’t know about me is I’ve experienced depression. It was a battle I thought I couldn’t win. But by God’s power I did. The first step to overcoming it was admitting it to my family and friends. If you’re experiencing this… don’t hide it. Talk to someone. You can defeat it and you’re joy will return!

    CJ Cruze

    Saturday Afternoons

I'm a father of 4 pretty cool kids and 2 dogs, so I stay busy. I am originally from a small town in Southeast Missouri (think St. Louis then drive south.) My hometown had a population of 5,286. I wanted to be on the radio ever since I was in the 8th grade (1991...which doesn't seem like a long time ago, until you do the math). I would do impressions of local radio personalities while in class...and was usually sent to the principal's office for it. My first radio job was at the local AM country station. I hosted a 2 hour weekday morning show before going to school each day. That is where I fell in love with radio. I've been on the air at various radio stations and formats across the United States, but Contemporary Christian music is my home.

    Gene Amason II

    Board President

Gene has been with the station from the beginning. It was actually his pops who first said, “We need to build a radio station for Magee”. Pops passed away in 2015 and Gene pushed forward with the vision. As Pastor of Church Alive, Gene loves seeing God work in the lives of others. He's married to Regina Amason, a psychometrist. The couple have two children - which is more than enough for them! Gene was a Marketing major at The University of Southern Mississippi and also earned an MBA from William Carey University. When Gene can't be located, he's most likely running, biking, swimming or at the gym. He’s big into the sport of triathlon and has raced in ten Ironman events (three 140.6 & seven 70.3) finishing all ten. EMAIL GENE
